Some professionals are held to a higher standard

Some professionals are held to a higher standard

On Behalf of Hantzes & Associates | May 18, 2020 | Uncategorized |

When you seek out the services of a Fairfax, Virginia professional, you expect a certain level of service, competence and experience. If you don’t receive the service you expect, it could be due to professional malpractice. You see, certain professionals, such as doctors, lawyers and accountants, are held to a higher standard than those in other professions since they are required to complete specialized education and to pass tests to ascertain their level of competence in the field.

For instance, when you go to see a doctor, he or she is expected to meet the standard of care expected for his or her particular discipline. If a doctor fails to meet that standard, you are the one who will pay the price. The harm done to you could change your life forever, and you may have the right to hold that individual accountable.

Likewise, the rules of professional conduct require lawyers to meet professional and ethical standards. If you go to a lawyer for legal assistance, and he or she acted negligently or unethically, you could sustain damages as a result, and you may have the opportunity to file pursue a claim for financial relief.  Accountants must also meet industry standards and exhibit a level of care when handling your financial matters, but not all of them do.

These and other professionals who are held to a higher standard will undoubtedly have attorneys to represent them when someone files a claim against them. These cases often involve complex issues that require the knowledge and experience of an attorney who routinely represents people in your position. If you look to go up against a doctor, lawyer, accountant or some other professional, you may want to consider employing legal counsel of your own.
